News Summary

The Las Vegas Valley is facing alarming motorcycle fatalities attributed to reckless driving and high speeds, with three deaths reported in just over a month. Authorities are investigating recent incidents and highlighting a critical rise in motorcycle deaths this year. Safety advocates emphasize the need for heightened awareness among both riders and motorists to prevent further tragedies. Calls for improved safety measures come amid a 40% increase in motorcycle fatalities compared to the previous year, indicating an urgent need for action.

Las Vegas, Nevada – Multiple motorcycle fatalities in the Las Vegas Valley have raised alarms as reckless driving and high speeds appear to be contributing factors. Recent incidents have led to the deaths of three motorcyclists in just over a month, prompting investigations by authorities and calls for improved safety measures.

The most recent fatality involved Michael Charles Scardino, a 37-year-old motorcyclist from Henderson, who died after crashing during a race with another motorcyclist on June 8, 2025. The accident took place around 9:30 p.m. near the eastbound off-ramp at North Buffalo Drive and State Route 613. Witnesses reported that Scardino was racing at high speeds and weaving through traffic when he collided with the rear passenger side of a light blue 2022 Honda Civic. The collision was so severe that Scardino’s motorcycle—the multi-colored 2012 Honda—became entangled with the Civic, resulting in the motorcycle being torn in two and ejecting Scardino from the vehicle. Fortunately, the driver of the Honda Civic escaped without injury and managed to stop safely on the shoulder. The Nevada State Police are currently investigating this incident.

Just a few days later, on June 13, 2025, another tragic accident occurred. Noah Riley Bitonio-Rodriguez, a 21-year-old motorcyclist, was killed when he rear-ended a 2019 Dodge Charger while traveling on the 215 westbound. Reports indicate that Bitonio-Rodriguez was speeding at the time of the crash, which caused debris to scatter and strike a nearby Mazda. The conditions involving other parties in this accident have not been disclosed by the Nevada State Police.

These fatalities are part of a troubling trend. As of mid-2025, the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command has recorded 30 fatal crashes resulting in 31 deaths this year alone—an alarming statistic for local authorities and safety advocates. In fact, motorcycle fatalities in Nevada have surged by 40% in 2025 compared to the previous year, highlighting the urgent need for action.

Earlier, on May 7, 2025, another motorcyclist, Staff Sgt. Killian Straber, aged 26, lost his life in North Las Vegas when his motorcycle crashed into a van. Speed was also deemed a contributing factor in this incident.

Investigations are ongoing into these fatalities, and the rise in motorcycle deaths has raised concerns among safety advocates throughout the Las Vegas Valley. High temperatures associated with spring and summer often result in an increased number of motorcycles on the road, but the heightened presence of riders has been compounded by driver negligence, as many motorists fail to recognize motorcycles and follow proper safety protocols.

Data from the Nevada Department of Public Safety indicates that at least 21 motorcycle fatalities were recorded from January to March 2025 alone, showcasing a critical increase in dangerous riding conditions. In light of these incidents, safety advocates are urging both motorcyclists and drivers to be more conscientious and aware of their surroundings to help prevent further accidents.

As motorcycle fatalities continue to rise, both riders and drivers are reminded of the importance of safety and caution on the roads. The use of protective gear, adherence to speed limits, and mindful driving practices are essential to optimizing safety for all road users.
