Inside the Wiseguys Comedy Club with audience laughing

News Summary

Wiseguys Comedy Club in Las Vegas officially closes its Arts District location, consolidating operations to Town Square for enhanced performance offerings. The move will accommodate a larger audience and more events. All employees will be transferred to ensure job security. Wiseguys, known for nurturing local talent, aims to thrive in its new environment, featuring a roster of top comedians. The shift marks a significant change in the local comedy scene but also brings opportunities for growth.

Las Vegas – Wiseguys Comedy Club, located at 1511 S. Main Street in the Arts District, will permanently close its doors after hosting its final performances from June 27 to June 29. The club, which opened in 2021 as the first and only comedy club in the Arts District, is consolidating its operations to its larger Town Square location, aiming to enhance its offerings and expand its schedule.

The last shows at the Arts District venue will feature headliner Jon “Polar Bear” Gonzalez. In a strategic move, proprietor Keith Stubbs is shifting bookings to the Town Square venue, which accommodates up to 350 patrons, compared to the 200-person maximum capacity at the Arts District location. Stubbs has emphasized that consolidating shows will allow for additional performances and more operating nights, with plans for the Town Square location to be open five or six nights a week.

As part of the transition, Stubbs has signed a 10-year lease at the Town Square location, while the lease for the Arts District space is set to expire this year. The property housing the Arts District venue is owned by Plaza CEO Jonathan Jossel and Tao Group managing partner Jason Strauss, who are considering converting the location into apartments after Wiseguys vacates.

Transition Supports Staff

In an effort to support staff during this transition, Stubbs plans to transfer all employees from the Arts District club to the Town Square venue, ensuring that no staff members lose their jobs amid the closure. This decision reflects a commitment to retain the workforce as the business evolves.

Wiseguys Comedy Club’s Legacy

Wiseguys Comedy Club has earned a reputation for nurturing the local comedy scene by regularly hosting open mic events and featuring local comedians. Notable performers at the club have included renowned comics such as Joan Rivers, George Lopez, and John Mulaney, contributing to its legacy in Las Vegas’s vibrant entertainment landscape.

Before opening the Arts District location, Stubbs had attempted to launch a Wiseguys club at Westgate in Las Vegas; however, that venue closed after just two months last October, signaling the challenges of the local comedy market. The Arts District venue was particularly encouraged by comedian Pauly Shore, highlighting the community’s support for local comedy experiences.

Future of Wiseguys

The Wiseguys Town Square location is gaining traction as an off-Strip entertainment hub, showcasing a lineup of heavy-hitting comedians set to perform in the months ahead. In addition to the Las Vegas locations, Wiseguys operates additional clubs in Ogden, Utah, and Salt Lake City, reinforcing its footprint in the comedy scene across several markets.

The closure of the Arts District venue marks a significant shift in the local comedy landscape but also offers an opportunity for Wiseguys Comedy Club to thrive in a more expansive environment. With stronger capacity and an improved operational framework, the Town Square venue plans to schedule more performances and engage a broader audience in the years to come.
