News Summary

A tragic multi-vehicle crash occurred in Las Vegas, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. The incident, involving a driver who ran a red light, highlights ongoing traffic safety concerns. Raul Castorena, the accused driver, is in critical condition and facing several charges, including DUI and reckless driving. The crash underscores the dangers of traffic violations and the importance of road safety as the investigation continues.

Las Vegas – A multi-vehicle crash on Sunday morning has resulted in one fatality and left several individuals injured, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). The accident took place around 6:24 a.m. at the intersection of North Eastern Avenue and East Stewart Avenue, marking the 82nd traffic-related fatality in the area for the year 2025.

The incident involved a 23-year-old driver, identified as Raul Castorena, who is accused of running a red light while driving a Toyota Camry at high speed. As he was heading east on Stewart Avenue, he failed to stop for a red signal, leading to a collision with a Volkswagen Touareg that was turning left from Eastern Avenue onto Stewart Avenue.

The impact of the crash was severe, pushing the Volkswagen into a Nissan Rogue that was already stopped at the intersection, which then redirected the Nissan into a stopped semi-truck. The driver of the Volkswagen, a 42-year-old man, suffered critical injuries that necessitated mechanical extraction from the vehicle. He was promptly transported to University Medical Center (UMC) but was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

Raul Castorena, the driver of the Toyota Camry, has also been reported in critical condition and has been taken to UMC for treatment. Additionally, both the driver and a passenger in the Nissan Rogue reported injuries and were also hospitalized.

In the wake of the accident, Castorena has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center in absentia on multiple charges, including DUI, reckless driving, and failing to obey a red light. The ongoing investigation into the collision is being handled by the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.

The aftermath of the crash resulted in significant traffic disruptions in the area, with the northbound lane and shoulder of North Eastern Avenue closed to allow for investigation, while the southbound lane remains open.

This tragic incident underlines the persistent dangers associated with traffic violations, particularly concerning driving under the influence, and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address such behavior. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging drivers to remain vigilant and obey all traffic signals to prevent further tragedies on the roads.

The LVMPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, with updates being released as more information becomes available. Community members are urged to be cautious in the area and to adhere to traffic laws to enhance safety for all road users.
