Las Vegas, Nevada – The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is launching a new initiative to encourage blood donations by offering limited-edition “Just My Type” sunglasses to donors. This partnership with the sunglasses company goodr is designed to incentivize donations during summer months when the need for blood often increases due to higher rates of accidents and medical emergencies.

From July 1 to July 14, individuals who donate blood will receive a free pair of the exclusive sunglasses, while supplies last. In a unique twist, donors will have the opportunity to personalize their sunglasses with a sticker representing their specific blood type, adding a personal touch to this appreciation gift.

Rachel Flanigan, the executive director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada chapter, highlighted the critical role that blood donations play in maintaining a steady supply for hospitals, especially during times when emergency cases rise. This initiative not only rewards donors but also serves as a call to action for the community to step forward and make a difference.

In addition to the sunglasses initiative, the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort and Spa will host a blood drive in partnership with Vitalant on November 30 and December 1. This event aims to further support the need for blood donations in the region. The blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the resort. Attendees are encouraged to schedule appointments in advance to facilitate the donation process, though walk-ins will also be accepted.

Individuals wishing to participate in the blood drive at JW Marriott can make appointments by either calling (877) 25-VITAL or using the Vitalant app. This collaboration between the JW Marriott and Vitalant reflects the ongoing effort within the community to bolster blood donation initiatives, especially as the winter season approaches, often accompanied by an increase in hospital visits.

The current summer program by the American Red Cross aims to emphasize the importance of regular blood donations. With the holiday season approaching, many local hospitals rely on a steady supply of blood to prepare for increased surgical procedures and medical emergencies that frequently occur during this time.

Blood donors play a vital role in ensuring that hospitals can respond promptly to emergencies, provide for patients in need, and maintain overall health within the community. The availability of unique incentives, like the limited-edition sunglasses, is part of broader strategies to engage and motivate existing and new donors alike.

Those interested in participating in the blood donation initiatives can find additional information and schedule their appointments at RedCrossBlood.org. By donating, individuals join a critical workforce dedicated to saving lives and supporting community health.

As summer progresses, the American Red Cross encourages everyone to consider the need for blood donations and the simple act of giving that can help save lives in the Las Vegas area and beyond.
