This incident highlights the increasing dangers associated with commercial trucking on Nevada’s busy roads. Authorities are investigating the crash to improve safety measures for motorists sharing highways with large commercial vehicles.

North Las Vegas

A tragic accident on U.S. 93 in Lincoln County has led to the death of a truck driver from North Las Vegas early on June 25. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at mile marker 15, resulting in the loss of Benjamin Iraheta Castellanos, 25, who was driving a white 2021 Isuzu box truck at the time of the crash.

According to preliminary reports from the Nevada Highway Patrol, the Isuzu truck was traveling southbound when it failed to stay within marked lanes. This loss of control caused the vehicle to drift into the northbound travel lane and subsequently collide with a blue 2025 Freightliner Cascadia semi tractor, which was in tow. The impact involved the left front of the Isuzu truck striking the left front of the Freightliner.

The collision caused the Isuzu to rotate counter-clockwise, eventually coming to rest on its wheels in the dirt shoulder, facing southwest. The Freightliner also ended up on its wheels, positioned in the dirt shoulder to the north of the Isuzu, facing east. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced Castellanos dead due to the severe injuries sustained during the crash.

This incident is part of a concerning trend on Nevada’s roads. In 2025, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported investigating 32 fatal crashes that led to 33 fatalities. The crash involving Castellanos occurred approximately 50 miles north of the junction with Interstate 15, which is a well-traveled area for freight and commercial trucks.

In the aftermath of the accident, law enforcement officials closed the northbound travel lane and shoulder to facilitate the investigation, while allowing the southbound lane to remain open for traffic. These measures are standard procedure to ensure the safety of both responders and passing motorists during crash inquiries.

The crash underlines the risks associated with commercial trucking on busy interstates. Large vehicles, such as trucks, have significant blind spots and require longer stopping distances, making them particularly vulnerable during high-speed travel. Safety regulations are in place to mitigate these risks; however, breaches in operational protocols can result in tragic outcomes like this one.

Local authorities are urging motorists to exercise additional caution, especially when sharing roadways with large commercial vehicles. Proper distance, attentiveness to posted lane markings, and adherence to speed limits are vital for preventing accidents.

The North Las Vegas community mourns the loss of Benjamin Iraheta Castellanos, who leaves behind family and friends. Resources and support services will likely be made available to those affected by this tragedy, as the impact of such incidents extends far beyond the physical locations of the accidents.

Authorities continue to investigate the factors leading to this incident, hoping to gather insights that could help improve safety measures for commercial trucking and general traffic alike.
