Families at a back to school fair in Clark County, receiving supplies and backpacks

News Summary

The Clark County School District is organizing resources for the upcoming academic year, which starts on August 11. Families are getting ready for back-to-school shopping and budgeting for essential items. With an increase in spending on supplies, various community initiatives, including back-to-school fairs and a drive for foster children, aim to support families in need. Free dental care and school supplies are also being offered to ensure every child is prepared for their educational journey.

Las Vegas – The Clark County School District (CCSD) is gearing up for the 2025-2026 academic year, which is set to commence on Monday, August 11, 2025, and conclude on Friday, May 22, 2026. The school year will consist of a total of 180 instructional days divided into two semesters, interspersed with regular breaks and holidays.

As families begin preparations for the upcoming school year, many are focusing on budget-friendly options for back-to-school shopping. National average spending for clothing alone is anticipated to range from $150 to $300 per child. Local families in Clark County are looking for ways to save on these essentials as they navigate their individual budgets. Moreover, the Clark County School District maintains a basic student dress code, which includes some schools mandating uniforms, particularly for elementary-aged children.

In addition to clothing, preparations include ensuring children have fresh haircuts, which research indicates can help boost confidence levels as they embark on a new school year. While the CCSD provides necessary school supplies for all students, families are often encouraged to contribute additional items if they wish. Common school supplies include folders, binders, crayons, colored pencils, glue sticks, and safety scissors.

This year, parents are projected to spend approximately $741 on back-to-school essentials, reflecting a notable increase of $200 compared to the previous year. With this rise in spending, the emphasis on finding deals and discounts has become increasingly important for families trying to manage their costs. The anticipation of higher expenses is prompting many to explore various shopping avenues to ensure their children have what they need for school.

To further support families during this transition, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is providing free dental care for children, with upcoming appointments available by calling 1-800-787-2568. Families who attend the dental care fair will receive a backpack filled with school supplies after their children’s examinations, promoting health and readiness for the school year.

The CCSD is also coordinating Back-to-School Fairs in partnership with Cox Communications, aiming to provide resources and supplies to families. These fairs will kick off on July 19, 2025, and will host representatives from local nonprofits and community organizations to connect families with valuable support. A significant event is planned for Rancho High School, which will host a free back-to-school fair on August 1, 2025. Here, attendees can obtain free backpacks and lunchboxes while supplies last, along with raffle prizes to engage and excite the community.

Additionally, Clark County Family Services is initiating a back-to-school drive directed at collecting essential supplies for local foster children. Donations for this drive will be accepted until July 25, 2025, encouraging community involvement in ensuring that all children have the necessary tools for success in the classroom.

As the start date for the 2025-2026 school year approaches, it is clear that the Clark County community is mobilizing its resources to support families and safeguard children’s educational experiences. Combined efforts from various organizations and individuals aim to alleviate the financial burden of the new school year while promoting a healthy, supportive environment for all students.
