Emergency responders at a multi-vehicle crash site in Las Vegas

News Summary

A tragic multi-vehicle crash on State Route 305 near Las Vegas has resulted in the death of 55-year-old William Benes. The accident involved a Jeep Cherokee, a Ford F-150, and a Freightliner truck. Preliminary investigations suggest that the Jeep veered into oncoming traffic, leading to a fatal collision. The Nevada Highway Patrol has launched an investigation as officials express ongoing concerns about road safety in the region, following a rise in fatal crashes this year.

Las Vegas – A man from Las Vegas has died following a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 305 near mile marker 50, located approximately between Austin and Battle Mountain. The accident occurred on July 20, 2025, at around 4:30 p.m.

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) reported that three vehicles were involved in the crash: a Jeep Cherokee, a Ford F-150, and a Freightliner commercial truck. According to preliminary investigations, the Jeep Cherokee unexpectedly veered into the northbound lane, sideswiping the Ford F-150.

This initial impact prompted the Ford F-150 to collide with the Freightliner. The collision resulted in the Freightliner jackknifing, causing it to block both lanes of traffic. The driver of the Ford F-150, identified as 55-year-old William Benes from Las Vegas, was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a tragic loss of life on Nevada roads.

The other drivers involved in the incident sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment following the crash. Fortunately, no other occupants were present in any of the vehicles at the time of the accident, reducing the potential for additional casualties.

In light of this incident, the NHP’s Traffic Homicide Unit has begun an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They are seeking to assess the factors that contributed to the collision and gather further evidence from the scene.

As of this reporting, the NHP’s Region Three has recorded a total of 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities in 2025. This statistic highlights an ongoing concern regarding road safety in the region, with authorities continually evaluating measures to enhance driver awareness and promote safer driving practices.

Traffic safety remains a critical issue in the state of Nevada, as evidenced by the increasing number of accidents and fatalities on the roadways. Authorities encourage drivers to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.

Following up on the incident, community members and road safety advocates are likely to express their condolences to the family of the deceased and urge greater awareness of road safety measures among drivers. The NHP is expected to provide updates as their investigation continues, aiming to prevent similar accidents in the future.

For those interested in supporting road safety efforts, local organizations often hold events and campaigns designed to educate drivers about safe driving habits and the importance of following traffic laws.

The NHP will continue to monitor traffic conditions on State Route 305 and other major highways throughout the state in order to ensure a safer travel experience for all residents and visitors to Nevada.
