Las Vegas Hosts Annual Back-to-School Fair to Support Teachers and Students Ahead of New School Year

Las Vegas, NV – The city is rallying support for educators and students ahead of the new school year with the annual Back-to-School Fair, hosted at the Desert Breeze Community Center. This initiative focuses on equipping both teachers and students with essential supplies necessary for a successful academic year.

This year’s fair, now in its third year, has been organized by local Clark County leaders who recognize the increasing need for educational resources. Teachers like Nancy Kunz, who has dedicated 28 years to educating students in the valley, stress the importance of the supplies made available at such events. Many educators often find themselves purchasing classroom necessities out of their own pockets, highlighting the ongoing challenge of funding in public education.

Clark County District F Commissioner Justin Jones underscores the vital role community support plays, especially for educators working in Title I schools. These institutions cater to financially struggling families and benefit significantly from federal Title I funding, which provides essential resources, after-school programs, and tutoring for students facing educational challenges.

As part of this effort, the Clark County School District (CCSD) has announced that the upcoming school year is set to commence on August 11, 2025. In collaboration with Cox Communications, CCSD plans to host a series of four free Back-to-School fairs across the valley. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families and to ensure that all students have the tools they need to succeed when they return to the classroom.

Recently, hundreds of families attended the first fair held at Boulevard Mall. During the event, CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert distributed free backpacks stuffed with supplies, while numerous local nonprofits and agencies provided information about after-school programs and homework assistance. These fairs aim to provide comprehensive support for families and students as they prepare to begin the school year.

The upcoming fairs are scheduled as follows:

  • Fair #2: July 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Galleria at Sunset.
  • Fair #3: August 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Downtown Summerlin.
  • Fair #4: August 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Meadows Mall.

In addition to the fairs, the City of North Las Vegas will hold a giveaway event specifically for families with school-aged children, providing them with crucial supplies. The Sanithrift Outlet will also contribute by donating school supplies to students who present valid student IDs on a first-come, first-served basis.

Clark County plans to host a Summer Fest event that will feature not only giveaway items but also food, backpacks, and school supplies. This family-friendly celebration will include services for haircuts, anti-bullying resources, mental health support, and hygiene items to support the well-being of students as well.

Moreover, local waterparks are participating in the initiative by offering discounted admission prices in exchange for school supply donations. Tivoli Village will also be hosting a celebration where attendees can contribute supplies to Walter Johnson Middle School, further reinforcing the community’s commitment to supporting education.

As the new school year approaches, these collaborative efforts are vital. They assure that both teachers and students have access to necessary resources and the support of the community, fostering a positive educational environment within Las Vegas.
