Chippendales brings back electrifying performances to Planet Hollywood.
Chippendales, the iconic male revue, has made its comeback to Planet Hollywood after a brief stint in other venues, including the Rio and Mat Franco Theater. This relocation emphasizes their commitment to operational control and aims to attract audiences in the bustling Las Vegas Strip. In addition, Chippendales is expanding to Nashville, with upcoming performances set to diversify their reach. With a storied legacy as the ‘Yankees of male revues,’ the troupe is optimistic about its future in this new venue and looks forward to successful performances.
Chippendales, the renowned male revue, reopened its theater at Planet Hollywood on Thursday night, marking another significant chapter in its long-running legacy. After a celebrated 23-year run at the Rio, which closed on New Year’s Eve, Chippendales has now transitioned through multiple venues in a short timeframe, highlighting the dynamic nature of live entertainment in Las Vegas.
The latest move comes just months after a temporary residency at the Mat Franco Theater, which began on January 17, 2023, following the closure at the Rio. While the initial aim was to establish a more prominent presence on the famous Las Vegas Strip, operational hurdles diminished the viability of this arrangement. As the Chippendales team faced challenges, the new operators at the Rio opted to introduce a different production, “Empire Strips Back,” which opened on May 4 and quickly gained popularity as a box-office hit.
In light of these developments, the decision to relocate to Planet Hollywood was driven by the need for better operational control. Located on the second level of Planet Hollywood, directly across from the Criss Angel Theater, the new theater allows Chippendales to manage its own show dates, times, and overall operations, enhancing the potential for success.
Chippendales has long held a legendary status in the entertainment scene, often referred to as the “Yankees of male revues.” This moniker underscores the brand’s iconic stature and widespread recognition within the industry. As the troupe embarks on this new venue, its leadership hopes to leverage their storied reputation to attract audiences seeking high-quality entertainment.
In addition to the reopening in Las Vegas, Chippendales is also expanding its reach to Nashville. A grand opening at the Hard Rock Cafe is set for June 25, which the troupe celebrated by arriving on horseback in their distinctive attire. This expansion further solidifies Chippendales’ aim to diversify and reach new audiences outside of Las Vegas.
Interestingly, their competitors, Thunder From Down Under, encountered difficulties in the Nashville market, with a failed residency that ended in May after just nine months. This context adds a layer of competitive strategy to Chippendales’ move, as they aim to occupy a prominent space in a market where others have struggled.
Katerina Tabakhov, Chippendales’ director of operations, expressed enthusiasm about the new dedicated space at Planet Hollywood, signaling optimism for future performances. With the familiar Las Vegas backdrop, a solid operational structure, and an expanding presence that includes Nashville, the troupe is hopeful for a successful revival and sustained growth in the months ahead.
As Chippendales navigates this ever-evolving landscape, its transition to Planet Hollywood may well prove to be a pivotal moment in its long history, positioning the brand effectively amidst a competitive entertainment market while catering to audiences eager for dynamic shows.
