Las Vegas is currently hosting the inaugural Fallout Fringe Festival, a vibrant celebration of performing arts featuring over 115 performances across diverse acts. This festival marks a significant cultural event in Downtown Las Vegas, running until June 25, and is one of the largest gatherings of its kind in the area.

The festival showcases more than 30 acts, spread across five venues: Majestic Repertory Theatre, Vegas Theatre Company, Notoriety, Cheapshot, and Cornish Pasty Co. Tickets for the performances are available for purchase at falloutfringe.org, allowing attendees to easily access a variety of shows.

A standout performance is “Doing Time with Lavinia,” which features actress Susan Campanaro delivering a powerful solo act that has earned praise, including a standing ovation. The narrative tells the story of Lavinia Draper, a character who shares her life experiences from a jail cell. This performance is enhanced by original background music composed and performed by Lynn Portas.

Another engaging show is the “Puppet Slam: Pride Edition,” presented by the Loose Thread Puppet Cult. This unique puppet show combines raunchy humor with participatory elements, making it an interactive experience for the audience. Additionally, “Knives, Knives, Knives” is a comedic drama that creatively weaves phrases from Donald Trump’s speeches into a compelling narrative.

The festival also features “Legoland,” a prequel to “Ride the Cyclone,” which humorously explores the adventures of homeschooled siblings Penny and Ezra Lamb. The show’s engaging script and the skilled performances by Emma Newton and Jeremy Dubey capture themes of youth and rebellion, resonating with the audience.

Another notable act is “Take Your Shot With Motivational Speaker Luigi Mangione,” a fusion of comedy and political commentary performed by Joshua Berg and Ernest Hemmings. This performance, like many others in the festival, aims to challenge conventional theater norms and engage audiences in thought-provoking discussions.

Approximately 80% of the festival’s lineup consists of local artists and productions, showcasing Las Vegas’ rich talent pool. The festival was organized by Ernest Hemmings, who initially aimed for a smaller event but later chose to significantly expand the vision, culminating in this diverse and bustling festival.

Majestic Repertory Theatre is also utilizing this opportunity to showcase both its past productions and new works during the festival. The Fallout Fringe Festival presents a wide array of performance styles, including clownwork, solo shows, and avant-garde pieces, catering to various audience preferences and interests.

In addition to performances, the festival includes workshops aimed at aspiring performers, providing a platform for education and artistic growth. Hemmings hopes that the festival will inspire engagement with the arts across all neighborhoods in Las Vegas, fostering a deeper appreciation for the performing arts in the community.

The Fallout Fringe Festival is a dynamic representation of Las Vegas’ creative spirit and a platform for innovative works that reflect the diversity and cultural richness of the area. As the festival continues through June 25, audiences and performers alike are invited to experience the cutting-edge performances and discover the local talents that make Las Vegas a vibrant hub for the arts.
