Las Vegas – Juneteenth celebrations across Nevada will honor the historical significance of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans with a variety of community events throughout June. From festivals to educational activities, the state is poised to reflect on this monumental occasion, especially as it was officially recognized as a state holiday in 2023. Various municipalities will also close their government offices on June 19 to mark the recognition of this important day.

The Las Vegas Juneteenth Festival is one of the highlighted events scheduled for June 19 at the World Market Center. This festival promises an array of musical performances, food vendors, and educational activities aimed at engaging the community in fun and informative ways. It serves as a key celebration of freedom and remembrance.

In Northern Nevada, the Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society will host its 36th Annual Juneteenth Festival on June 16 at Rancho San Rafael Park from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. This event will feature food, music, and games, welcoming families to enjoy a spirited atmosphere of togetherness and reflection.

For those in the LGBTQ community, the Juneteenth Pride Block Party will be held on June 15 at the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada, combining cultural festivities with entertainment, further highlighting the diversity of Juneteenth celebrations.

Additionally, the Juneteenth at the Library event will take place on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the West Charleston Library. This event aims to foster community engagement by providing craft kits and activities for patrons, promoting educational outreach for younger generations.

The celebration continues with several events on June 18. The Juneteenth Celebrating Freedom Event at The Wall at Area 15 will run from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring performances and a mini-museum. At Liberty Park, a Flag Raising Ceremony is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., complemented by music and dance performances. Furthermore, ArchWell Health will host live entertainment with giveaways on June 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to encourage community participation.

As June 19 approaches, additional festivities are lined up. The Juneteenth Festival will occur at Water Street Plaza from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring a vendor market and community activities. Simultaneously, Craig Ranch will host the F.A.I.T.H. Freedom Festival, also from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., providing food and family-friendly entertainment. Books and Buns will celebrate its grand opening from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 19, focusing on works by Black authors, and the Las Vegas Aces will face off against the Indiana Fever at T-Mobile Arena at 12 p.m.

In a move to broaden access to natural spaces, Death Valley National Park will waive entrance fees on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. Moreover, North Las Vegas plans to hold a community event recognizing the importance of Juneteenth on the same day.

Historically, Juneteenth has been a day of reflection and education, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States after President Biden’s signing of the bill establishing June 19 as a federal holiday in 2021. For 37 years, Nevada’s communities, particularly in Reno, have actively engaged in recognizing the day, promoting education and unity.

With a wide array of events highlighting music, food, historical significance, and community engagement, Nevada’s Juneteenth celebrations this month promise to offer both remembrance and joy, bringing together citizens in a collective acknowledgment of freedom and history.
