Las Vegas – Kevin Skagen is celebrating nearly 20 years at the Golden Nugget resort in downtown Las Vegas, marking a significant milestone in his career as the pool general manager of The Tank. Skagen, who feels that he has been shaped by his time at the Golden Nugget, expresses satisfaction with his professional journey and the experiences he has created for guests over the years.
As pool general manager, Skagen enjoys the vibrant environment that comes with overseeing The Tank, particularly the outdoor, fast-paced setting which keeps him active and engaged. His career at Golden Nugget began at the front desk and box office, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the hospitality industry. All staff members, including Skagen, are lifeguard certified, ensuring that safety is a top priority during pool operations. Skagen takes a hands-on approach to management, actively participating in daily operations and frequently interacting with guests, enhancing their overall experience.
The Tank, a notable attraction at the Golden Nugget, is known for its impressive features, including a stunning 200,000-gallon shark tank aquarium and a waterslide tunnel that flows through the exhibit. This makes The Tank one of Las Vegas’s most unique pool spaces, offering not only relaxation but also excitement and adventure for guests. To add to the fun, table games such as blackjack are available outdoors during the Night Swim events.
One of the highlights of The Tank is the summertime Night Swim parties, taking place every Friday and Saturday night. These events are free for individuals aged 21 and older, attracting a diverse crowd of locals and tourists alike. The parties feature a live DJ, music from DJ Flow after sunset, and a live band performance on the first Friday of each month, creating a festive atmosphere.
During the Night Swim, guests can enjoy a selection of specialty cocktails, including the popular Shark Attack, made with Bacardi Superior rum, Malibu coconut rum, DeKuyper blue Curaçao, pineapple juice, Sprite, and grenadine. Additionally, guests can enhance their experience by reserving a cabana, daybed, or sofa right next to the pool.
In addition to the Night Swim parties, the Golden Nugget will be hosting Shark Days from July 11 to 18. This event features fish feedings, scavenger hunts, yummy sweets, and photo opportunities with the resort’s mascot, Sharkey. The combination of events promises to be engaging and entertaining for all who attend.
To top off the Night Swim evenings, a spectacular fireworks show is held every Friday night at 9:15 p.m., courtesy of the neighboring Plaza hotel. This dazzling display further enriches the festive atmosphere and offers a perfect way to close out the week.
