Las Vegas

Two tragic incidents in the Las Vegas area have resulted in fatalities and serious injuries, sparking investigations by local authorities.

Fatal Crash in Gated Community

John Godenzi, a 73-year-old man from Las Vegas, passed away on Monday due to injuries sustained in an incident on June 7. The incident involved a 2022 Kia EV6 and occurred on private property in a gated community, specifically at the 9600 block of Marigny Court. It will not be classified as a traffic-related fatality.

According to reports, Godenzi was struck by the Kia while standing next to the open driver’s front door in an open garage. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Catherine Godenzi, was unharmed during the event. For reasons currently unknown, the vehicle began reversing out of the garage, pinning John Godenzi between the car and the door, causing him to fall to the ground. The Kia continued to reverse across the roadway, ultimately colliding with a nearby light pole.

Emergency Medical Services transported Godenzi to University Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The Clark County Coroner’s Office confirmed his death on June 9. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Separate Fatal Accident in North Las Vegas

In a separate incident on Thursday, a fatal crash occurred in North Las Vegas at the intersection of Revere Street and Rossmoyne Avenue. Police reported that the collision involved a white Hyundai Sonata and a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck at approximately 10:38 a.m.

The investigation suggests that the Hyundai failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling westbound on Rossmoyne Avenue, subsequently crashing into the northbound Dodge Ram. As a result of the collision, two passengers in the Hyundai sustained critical injuries and were taken to University Medical Center. Unfortunately, one of these passengers has since died from their injuries. The identities and conditions of the passengers in the Dodge Ram, as well as the driver of the Hyundai, have not been disclosed.

Authorities indicated that speed and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors in this incident. The deceased’s identity and the exact cause of death will be announced by the Clark County Coroner’s Office once investigations are concluded. Meanwhile, the North Las Vegas Police Department is actively seeking information from the public regarding this incident.

Background Context

The fatalities and serious injuries resulting from these accidents have highlighted ongoing concerns regarding road safety, particularly in residential areas and intersections. Incidents of this nature often prompt local authorities to conduct thorough investigations to ensure the safety of residents and improve driving conditions in the community.

As both incidents remain under investigation, authorities encourage anyone with information to come forward to assist in their inquiries.
