Las Vegas – A student from Las Vegas Day School has captured the top spot in the 5th Grade Adventure Pass design challenge, showcasing her talent with an artwork titled “Stargazing.” This creative piece prominently features the stunning Elephant Rock of the Valley of Fire State Park. As the winner, her artwork will be displayed on the 2025-2026 5th Grade Adventure Pass, an annual initiative designed to promote outdoor exploration among young students in Nevada.
To commemorate her achievement, Ahri and her family recently visited the Valley of Fire State Park, where they received a personal tour of the iconic Elephant Rock formation. During this celebration, Ahri had a special encounter with the Nevada State Parks mascot, Carson Kit Fox, which added to the excitement of the day. Furthermore, she was officially presented with her winning pass, which she will still be able to use throughout the upcoming school year, even as she prepares to transition to the 6th grade.
Ahri has shared her passion for drawing, highlighting it as one of her favorite hobbies. With the Adventure Pass, she hopes to explore more of Nevada’s 27 state parks with her family throughout the year. The Adventure Pass initiative has been instrumental in encouraging families to engage with the natural beauty and recreational opportunities offered by state parks.
Established by legislation AB385, the 5th Grade Adventure Pass program has been granting free annual entrance passes to all 5th graders in Nevada since its inception in 2017. This program allows students and their families complimentary access to all 27 Nevada State Parks from July through the following August. In 2024, the pass was renamed the Adventure Pass to emphasize the exploration possibilities available across Nevada’s diverse public lands.
The Adventure Pass Design Challenge invites 5th-grade students to submit designs for the next year’s Adventure Pass. The winning submission will be featured on the official 2026-2027 pass. Students selected as winners receive a special copy of their artwork, which they can use as a 6th grader in the subsequent school year. Furthermore, parents and teachers have the option to download the entry form for the contest online, facilitating participation in this engaging project.
Nevada State Parks underscores the importance of outdoor exploration and the enduring connection between students and the natural landscape through programs like the Adventure Pass. By fostering a love for nature and encouraging young individuals to discover the beauty of the state’s parks, the program actively contributes to the development of future stewards of the environment.
With her artwork now part of this celebrated program, Ahri not only secures a personal achievement but also contributes to a larger movement of appreciating Nevada’s bountiful parks and natural treasures. Her story serves as an inspiration for other young artists to explore their creativity and get involved in initiatives that encourage appreciation for the outdoors.
