Las Vegas

A man was found dead in a swimming pool in the central Las Vegas valley on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, around 12:30 p.m. The incident occurred in the 2600 block of Palma Vista Avenue, near South Eastern Avenue and East Vegas Valley Drive. Las Vegas Metro police responded to a call about a possible drowning and confirmed that one man was found deceased in the pool.

The identity of the man, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released later by the Clark County Coroner’s Office. This unfortunate incident marks the second reported drowning in the Las Vegas Valley within just one week. In a separate incident, a young girl was found unresponsive in a pool at an apartment complex in North Las Vegas. Rescuers, consisting of two individuals who performed chest compressions, rushed her to UMC Trauma, where she remains in critical condition.

Local residents are expressing their concerns as news of the drownings spreads. Megan Hannigan, who witnessed the rescue efforts of the young girl, mentioned her sympathies for the affected families, highlighting the emotional toll these incidents take on the community.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), there were seven reported drownings across the valley in the previous year. As summer temperatures rise, police are urging families to prioritize water safety to prevent further tragedies. They recommend securing gates around pools, using life jackets, and keeping a close eye on children while they are in and around water.

Moreover, LVMPD Public Information Officer Luis Vidal emphasized the significance of swim classes for children and CPR certification for adults, suggesting that these measures could save lives in emergency situations. The exact circumstances surrounding the man’s drowning remain unclear, and investigators are working to gather more information to understand how this incident occurred.

The current rise in drowning incidents serves as a stark reminder of the need for safety precautions during the hot summer months. Families are encouraged to proactively ensure that swimming environments are safe and that children are prepared to enjoy water activities responsibly. The community’s well-being depends on collective awareness and vigilance regarding water safety.

As the investigation continues, authorities hope to shed light on the specifics surrounding the man’s death and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The grieving process for families touched by recent events, including the cases of both the man and the young girl, is likely to be a long and difficult one, underscoring the need for support and understanding within the Las Vegas community.
