The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is probing two hit-and-run incidents, one resulting in a pedestrian’s death and the other leaving one injured. The first incident occurred on Industrial Road, where the driver has been apprehended. The second incident involved a woman struck by a vehicle on Flamingo Road, and the suspect has since turned herself in. These events have raised concerns regarding pedestrian safety in the community.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is currently investigating two separate hit-and-run incidents that have left one pedestrian dead and another seriously injured. The first incident occurred Saturday afternoon, while the fatal crash took place early Monday morning.
On Saturday at approximately 3:30 p.m., a vehicle struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Industrial Road and West Sahara Avenue. Emergency responders transported the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital where they are currently listed in stable condition. The suspect and the vehicle involved in this incident have been taken into custody. Following the crash, the road at the location is anticipated to reopen shortly.
In a separate incident early Monday morning around 3:20 a.m., a fatal hit-and-run occurred on Flamingo Road, east of Palos Verdes Street. A 34-year-old woman was struck by a black 2013 Dodge Challenger while crossing the road outside of marked crosswalks. The vehicle was reportedly traveling east on Flamingo Road when it swerved and dragged the pedestrian beneath it before fleeing the scene. Emergency services pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Roxxanne Barela, a 19-year-old woman from California, later turned herself in to the authorities regarding the fatal incident. As a result of her involvement, she is now facing charges of hit-and-run. The investigation into the events surrounding this tragic crash continues as police gather additional evidence.
The Las Vegas community has been shaken by these incidents, highlighting concerns regarding pedestrian safety. Authorities have reiterated the importance of using marked crosswalks while crossing streets and the dangers posed by reckless driving. Other recent incidents include a motorcycle rider who was struck and killed while heading to a friend’s birthday celebration, and a bartender in Summerlin facing charges related to inappropriate materials found under a restroom sink. Additionally, an ex-prosecutor is under investigation related to a prostitution ring and attempted murder findings.
