Las Vegas is preparing for a vibrant Memorial Day weekend filled with family-friendly activities as children begin their summer break. A wide range of free and low-cost events such as festivals, concerts, and outdoor movie screenings will provide opportunities for families to come together and celebrate. Events include the HAAPI Roots Festival, a Glow Bike Ride, various concerts, and theatrical performances that showcase the community’s spirit and cultural diversity.
Las Vegas is gearing up for an exciting Memorial Day weekend as school lets out for summer for thousands of children across the valley. A variety of free and inexpensive events are set to kick off, offering families an opportunity to enjoy the holiday together while embracing the community spirit.
The HAAPI (Honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander) Roots festival returns to Downtown Container Park on Sunday, May 25. This event celebrates AAPI Heritage Month and features local small businesses and community vendors. Families can enjoy a treehouse playground, food and drink specials, and more. The festival runs from noon until 6 p.m. and offers free entry.
In celebration of National Bike Month, the City of Henderson will be hosting a Glow Bike Ride on Saturday, May 24. Participants need to bring their own bike and helmet; however, neon decorations and glow sticks will be provided. The event includes a bike decorating session and a safety course for children from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. followed by the ride from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Registration costs $10.
A free 1980s tribute concert is scheduled for Saturday, May 24, at Henderson’s Water Street Plaza Amphitheater starting at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to dress in 80s-inspired attire, and food and drink vendors will be available during the event.
The Nevada Shakespeare Festival will present The Comedy of Errors at Aliante Nature Discovery Park on Saturday, May 24. This free performance will commence at 5:30 p.m., providing an excellent cultural experience for attendees and families.
The popular Downtown Rocks Concert Series will feature performances at the Fremont Street experience on Saturday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 25, at 5 p.m.. These free performances will showcase artists from the Live Arts Collective and the Nevada Ballet Theatre II.
The District at Green Valley Ranch will host a free outdoor screening of Despicable Me 4 on Saturday, May 24, at sunset. Families are encouraged to bring blankets, towels, and camping chairs for a comfortable viewing experience.
The Best Dam Barbecue Challenge is expected to draw large crowds to Bicentennial Park in Boulder City from Friday, May 23, noon to 10 p.m., and Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature live music, a barbecue competition, and both car and bike shows, all with free admission.
The Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra will hold its Spring concert on Sunday, May 25, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the College of Southern Nevada. Tickets are complimentary but required for entry.
The North Las Vegas Movie Madness series will kick off with a free screening of Lilo & Stitch on Friday, May 23, at Hartke Park. The movie is set to begin at dusk, with attendees welcome to bring coolers and blankets for a cozy night outdoors.
Throughout the weekend and on Monday, various Memorial Day ceremonies are planned at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Events include a flag display in Henderson at Cornerstone Park, a Memorial Day barbecue and resource fair in North Las Vegas, and the inspirational Walk of Honor hosted by Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley on Friday, May 23, at Police Memorial Park at 7:30 p.m.
