Las Vegas is preparing for a record influx of visitors this Memorial Day weekend, with expectations of over 300,000 travelers arriving in the city as part of a national total of approximately 45 million people hitting the roads. This surge in travel coincides with safety reminders from law enforcement, highlighting the start of the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” when road safety becomes a major concern.

According to estimates from Triple AAA, many travelers are expected to drive at least 50 miles to their destinations. In Nevada, gas prices hover just under $4 a gallon, notably above the national average, potentially impacting travel decisions. In light of the expected traffic, law enforcement officials are urging motorists to remain vigilant, avoid speeding, and refrain from impaired driving.

To ensure safety, officers will be patrolling the highways leading from California to Nevada throughout the holiday weekend. Last year, nearly 50 fatalities were recorded during this perilous period, including almost 20 involving pedestrians, prompting heightened awareness efforts this year.

The Regional Transportation Commission has advised motorists to avoid I-15 on Memorial Day, especially between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Parking at Harry Reid International Airport is also expected to fill up quickly as travelers make plans to fly into the city.
