Las Vegas – A series of accidents involving mini-bike riders in Las Vegas has resulted in one fatality and left another individual critically injured. These incidents highlight the growing safety concerns surrounding mini-bikes and their interaction with standard road vehicles in urban areas.
On Sunday, a mini-bike rider sustained life-threatening injuries after colliding with a sedan at the intersection of Gowan Road and Pecos Road, near Cheyenne Avenue. The rider was heading east when a westbound sedan turned left onto southbound Pecos, unknowingly crossing into the mini-bike’s path. The rider crashed into the passenger side of the vehicle. Following the collision, emergency medical personnel transported the injured rider to a hospital for treatment, although no further details about this individual or their current condition have been disclosed.
In a separate incident on Tuesday at approximately 4:55 p.m., a 19-year-old mini-bike rider lost his life following a collision with a Chevrolet Equinox at the intersection of Lamb Boulevard and Desert Inn Road. The victim was identified as James Ashley, who was riding a Coleman trail bike that was found to be unregistered. Initial investigations suggest that the driver of the Equinox, a 51-year-old man traveling from Utah, had stopped at a red light behind other vehicles when the mini-bike rider failed to stop and struck the rear of his vehicle. Emergency crews rushed Ashley to Sunrise Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Equinox reported no injuries and showed no signs of impairment during the incident.
This tragic event marks the 79th traffic-related fatality recorded in Las Vegas for 2025. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding both this incident and the earlier crash involving the mini-bike.
In addition to these accidents, another young rider, only 16 years old, was critically injured in a separate crash in southeast Las Vegas. This incident occurred just after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Del Santos Drive and El Pastor Lane. The teen was riding a Coleman mini-bike and failed to stop at a posted stop sign, continuing into the intersection where he struck the east curb and was thrown off the bike. The young rider was immediately transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, no other vehicles or individuals were involved in this crash, and impairment does not appear to play a role. The investigation into this incident is also being conducted by Metro’s Collision Investigation Section.
These recent events represent a concerning trend in traffic safety, particularly regarding the use of mini-bikes in urban settings. As the number of mini-bike riders increases, so does the need for effective safety measures and education to prevent future crashes and injuries. Riders are encouraged to wear appropriate safety gear, comply with traffic laws, and ensure their vehicles are registered and roadworthy.
The incidents involving the mini-bike riders serve as a reminder of the potential dangers on the road, particularly for those who ride smaller, less visible vehicles. Authorities continue to gather data and monitor the situation to improve safety for all road users in Las Vegas.
