Las Vegas – A motorcyclist has died following a late-night collision in southeast Las Vegas, leading to charges against the driver involved. The accident occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on September 5, at the intersection of East Tropicana Avenue and McLeod Drive.

According to authorities, a 2010 Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Tropicana when it attempted to make a left turn onto McLeod Drive. This maneuver placed the vehicle directly in the path of an eastbound motorcycle, identified as a 2020 Harley-Davidson Lowrider S. Upon impact, the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and landed on the roadway.

The rider, a 37-year-old man from Las Vegas, sustained critical injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The driver of the Honda, 36-year-old Bryan Vargas-Caicedo, exhibited signs of impairment during the investigation. While he sustained only minor injuries in the crash, he was subsequently arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. Vargas-Caicedo is facing several charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), failing to yield the right of way on a yellow arrow, operating an unregistered vehicle, and driving without a valid license.

This tragic incident marks the 111th traffic-related death in Las Vegas in 2025, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the area. Vargas-Caicedo is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. the day following the incident. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section is actively conducting an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

The increase in traffic fatalities, particularly involving motorcyclists, raises significant concerns among community leaders and law enforcement officials. In recent years, Las Vegas has seen a rising trend in serious accidents, prompting calls for enhanced safety measures and public awareness initiatives regarding road safety and driving under the influence.

The motorcyclist’s death serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences of impaired driving and the critical importance of following traffic laws. Authorities emphasize the need for all drivers to remain vigilant, adhere to traffic signals, and avoid reckless behavior to prevent further tragedies on the road.

The investigation remains ongoing, and any witnesses to the incident are encouraged to contact the police to provide any information that may assist in resolving this case.
