Las Vegas is currently the focus of investigations into multiple motorcycle crashes that have resulted in injuries and fatalities. One significant incident occurred on a Friday morning, when a motorcyclist was injured in a hit-and-run accident on Sahara Avenue.
The collision happened near the interchange of Sahara Avenue and I-15 at approximately 5:20 a.m. A red Kia sedan traveling westbound reportedly ran a red light, striking both a Chevy SUV and a BMW motorcycle. After the incident, the driver of the Kia fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. The injured motorcyclist was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment. As of now, the Nevada State Police have stated that more details about the ongoing investigation into this incident have not been disclosed.
In a separate incident, a fatal motorcycle collision was reported on Saturday morning on East Washington Avenue at around 10:22 a.m. Evidence and accounts from witnesses, as well as surveillance footage, revealed that a 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400 motorcycle was proceeding eastbound on a yellow traffic light. The motorcycle collided with a 1998 Ford F-150 truck, which was making a left turn at the intersection. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and ultimately pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving attempts from emergency responders. The driver of the Ford F-150 was taken to UMC Trauma Center for injuries and has cooperated with the investigation, displaying no signs of impairment. This incident marks the 121st traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2025.
On August 26, another motorcycle accident claimed the life of a 31-year-old man named Carlisle Yazzie. This incident took place on State Route 160 at approximately 12:01 a.m. Preliminary investigations indicated that Yazzie was traveling southbound in the wrong direction when his motorcycle collided with a sedan. The Nevada State Police have identified this crash as one of 41 fatal accidents they have handled in 2025.
Additionally, late on the same Friday night, a motorcyclist, Wesley Larsen, aged 37, was killed in a crash on East Tropicana Avenue and McLeod Drive just before 11:30 p.m. In this incident, a driver named Bryan Vargas-Caicedo, who was operating a Honda Accord, made a left turn and collided with Larsen’s motorcycle, throwing him onto the roadway. Vargas-Caicedo showed signs of impairment and has been charged with DUI as well as other offenses related to the incident.
Authorities are continuing their thorough investigations into both fatal and non-fatal motorcycle crashes occurring in the area. The ongoing investigations highlight the increasing concern over traffic safety in Las Vegas, particularly regarding motorcycle-related incidents. Police encourage anyone with additional information or witnesses to these accidents to come forward to assist with the investigations and prevent future tragedies.
As the motorcycle accident investigations proceed, these incidents underscore the importance of road safety awareness, adherence to traffic signals, and the consequences of impaired driving. Motorcyclists and drivers alike are urged to operate their vehicles responsibly to ensure the safety of all road users.
