A 23-year-old male pedestrian has lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while walking on a sidewalk in Southwest Las Vegas Valley. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, shortly after 4:30 p.m. at Warm Springs Road near Jones Boulevard.
According to the Las Vegas Metro Police, the pedestrian was walking along the sidewalk when a vehicle unexpectedly left the roadway and collided with him. Despite the immediate response from emergency services, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 38-year-old Daniel Stakleff, stayed at the scene and exhibited signs of impairment. Following the incident, Stakleff has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI). The vehicle involved in the collision was a 2008 Volkswagen Passat, which reportedly failed to maintain its lane before striking both the pedestrian and a luminary support on the sidewalk.
Metro Police have launched an ongoing investigation into the fatal incident, with impairment by the driver being a significant factor. Witness statements and video evidence captured from the vehicle have been collected and are currently being reviewed as part of the investigation.
This incident brings the total number of traffic-related fatalities in Metro’s jurisdiction for the year 2025 to 63. In the wake of the collision, Warm Springs Road was temporarily closed in both directions between Jones Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive to facilitate an investigation and allow for accident reconstruction efforts.
The location where the accident occurred has seen previous tragic incidents. Notably, a memorial site dedicated to Christopher Soto, a 22-year-old who was killed in an earlier accident, is situated near the scene of Tuesday’s incident. The recent accidents in this area highlight growing concerns regarding pedestrian safety and driver responsibility amidst rising DUI statistics.
As the investigation continues, authorities are encouraging community members to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic laws to prevent such tragedies in the future. The impact of such incidents reverberates through the community, reinforcing the necessity for continued awareness and education concerning pedestrian safety and impaired driving prevention.
