Scene of a serious rollover crash in Las Vegas with police and emergency vehicles.

News Summary

A driver has been apprehended following a tragic rollover crash in Las Vegas that resulted in the death of a 41-year-old man. Yoan Cruz-Bruzon, aged 24-25, is charged with reckless driving resulting in death. The incident occurred after Cruz-Bruzon reportedly lost control of his vehicle while speeding, leading to multiple injuries and the death of Michel Fernandez-Fumero. Local authorities are emphasizing the need for road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.

Las Vegas – Ten months after a tragic rollover crash claimed the life of a 41-year-old man, law enforcement officials have apprehended a driver in connection with the incident. Yoan Cruz-Bruzon, aged between 24 and 25, was arrested for reckless driving resulting in death or serious bodily harm. The crash, which happened on September 6, 2024, around 11 p.m. on East Desert Inn Road near Channel 8 Drive, involved two vehicles and led to three injuries.

Authorities reported that police received a 911 call regarding a rollover accident. Upon arrival, they found one vehicle overturned while the other had fled the scene. Michel Fernandez-Fumero was discovered lying on the ground near the rear of the vehicle, suffering from severe head injuries, and was pronounced dead at the location of the crash. The other victims included a person found with back injuries near the driver’s side, and a third individual was assisted from the flipped vehicle by the police.

Initial investigations indicated that a 2006 Infiniti G35 was driving eastbound when it lost control. The vehicle veered off the roadway, collided with a crash attenuator, and subsequently flipped onto its roof. The front passenger provided police with the name of the driver, Yoan Cruz-Bruzon. Cruz-Bruzon suggested that his vehicle was forced off the road by an unidentified SUV or that a tire failure had caused him to lose control.

However, evidence from the scene indicated that speed played a critical role in the accident. Police determined that the Infiniti was traveling at an average speed of 77 mph in a 45 mph zone. Furthermore, Fernandez-Fumero, who was seated in the back, was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the rollover, resulting in his fatal injuries.

The driver, Cruz-Bruzon, possessed a driver’s instruction permit but was alone in the vehicle without a licensed adult, violating regulations that require a qualified supervisor during practice driving. Surveillance footage from a nearby hotel casino captured the moments leading up to the accident, showing the Infiniti aggressively passing other vehicles before it lost control.

Cruz-Bruzon was arrested on July 7, nearly ten months after the incident. After being charged with reckless driving resulting in death or serious bodily harm, he posted bond and was released. His next court appearance is set for August 7, where he will face the charges related to this fatal accident.

This incident has highlighted concerns over road safety and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations in the Las Vegas area, especially in light of the dangers posed by reckless driving behaviors. As investigations continue, local authorities stress the need for drivers to prioritize safety and responsibility on the roads.
