Two men have been charged with attempted murder following a freeway shooting incident that left an innocent bystander injured on May 3, 2025. The suspects, King Johnson-Jackson and Jonathan Santoyo, both 18 years old, face multiple charges in connection with the incident that escalated during the pursuit of a stolen vehicle.
The chain of events began when a woman spotted a family member’s stolen car in a parking lot located in northwest Las Vegas. Concerned for her family member’s car, she and her boyfriend decided to follow the vehicle, which was occupied by a masked driver and passenger. During the chase, the occupants of the stolen car opened fire on the couple, leading to a chaotic situation that resulted in bullets striking several homes in the area as well as injuring an innocent bystander.
As the shooting unfolded, a driver who was on the freeway with his wife, daughter, and a friend’s daughter was struck by a bullet in the arm. The incident initiated near Durango Drive and Grand Montecito Parkway and concluded on the 215 Beltway near North Jones Boulevard. Following the incident, law enforcement found the abandoned, burned stolen vehicle in an area near Blue Diamond Road and Jones Boulevard.
King Johnson-Jackson made his first court appearance on May 5, 2025, but he was not in custody at that time due to prosecutors requesting additional time to gather more evidence. On the other hand, Jonathan Santoyo was arrested on May 23, 2025, and is currently in custody. A judge denied him bail, citing a suspended sentence related to a separate case as a reason for his detention.
Both suspects are charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder, stemming from the shooting incident. Investigators also discovered that the firearm used in the attack is believed to have been stolen in April, further linking the actions of the suspects to a pattern of criminal behavior.
Jonathan Santoyo’s legal troubles extend beyond this recent shooting incident. He currently faces several other active cases involving grand larceny charges, highlighting a troubling pattern of alleged criminal activity. The complex nature of these cases may contribute to the seriousness with which law enforcement and judicial systems are treating this recent shooting incident.
This shooting has raised concerns within the Las Vegas community regarding safety and the prevalence of gun violence, particularly involving stolen vehicles. As the investigation continues, community members are urging local authorities to enhance efforts in addressing vehicle theft and related violent crimes to prevent future tragedies.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that can arise from such reckless actions, both for directly involved individuals and innocent bystanders. Law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring the safety of the community and holding those responsible for these violent acts accountable.
