Traffic disruptions due to road closures in Las Vegas

News Summary

Las Vegas is facing significant traffic disruptions as major road closures on I-15 and Tropicana Avenue are scheduled throughout June. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) details these closures, which include overnight closures on June 1-4 and lane reductions on Tropicana Avenue. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes due to anticipated delays. Further disruption is expected with the ongoing construction of the Peace Way project, valued at $19.8 million. NDOT emphasizes these closures are necessary for critical infrastructure improvements.

Las Vegas is preparing for significant disruptions to traffic as major road closures are scheduled for I-15 and Tropicana Avenue through the month of June. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has released detailed information outlining the closures, which are expected to cause delays for motorists in the area.

The closures on I-15 begin with the Harmon on-ramp to I-15 southbound and the I-15 northbound off-ramp to Harmon, which will be completely closed nightly on June 1 and 2 from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Following this, the I-15 northbound CD Road at Russell and the Russell on-ramp to I-15 northbound will be fully closed on June 3 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. On June 4, the Tropicana on-ramp to I-15 southbound and the I-15 southbound CD Road to Russell/I-215 westbound will also face full closures during the same overnight hours.

In addition to I-15 closures, Tropicana Avenue will undergo lane reductions between Polaris and Valley View, reducing traffic to only two lanes in each direction. This arrangement will be in effect 24/7 from June 1 to July 1. The left turn access from eastbound Tropicana at New York-New York is also set to be closed on June 1 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., followed by one lane open eastbound from Las Vegas Boulevard to Polaris on June 2, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Mid-June will see the continuation of closures with nightly shutdowns of the Harmon on-ramp to I-15 southbound and the I-15 northbound off-ramp to Harmon on June 15, 16, and 17, operating from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. These disruptions underline the need for drivers to plan alternate routes in advance and anticipate delays.

The closure of the 215 beltway in southwest Las Vegas is scheduled to take place starting Friday night. The closures will affect both directions from Tropicana Avenue to Flamingo Road due to ongoing bridge work. Expected to begin at 9 p.m. Friday and last through Saturday, these closures are anticipated to last no more than 24 hours. Southbound lane reductions are likely to begin as far north as Town Center Drive, while northbound reductions will commence around Sunset Road.

Motorists will find detours available, including using Fort Apache Road to access the CC-215 at Flamingo Road for northbound travel and Tropicana Avenue for southbound access. Regular construction project hours take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.

Currently, a construction project valued at $19.8 million is ongoing for the Peace Way project, which is expected to be completed this summer. This initiative will include new bridge connections and traffic signal installations. Additionally, new freeway closures on I-15 due to the Tropicana project will impact traffic; southbound I-15 will be entirely closed from Flamingo to Russell from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday. Coinciding with these disruptions, northbound I-15 will also be fully closed from the I-15/215 interchange to Flamingo on Thursday night, which overlaps with busy Golden Knights playoff traffic.

NDOT emphasizes that these closures are vital to completing striping on I-15 and installing vehicle detection loops necessary for congestion monitoring. After the completion of these projects, all five lanes in both directions of I-15 will be opened, which is expected to significantly enhance commute times in the area. Work on Tropicana West of the freeway to Polaris will continue until later this summer, further affecting traffic patterns.
