Traffic incident scene in Las Vegas with warning signs and emergency responders

News Summary

Las Vegas is facing significant traffic disruptions due to a series of accidents, including a major crash on the 215 Southern Beltway and a motorcycle incident on Nellis Boulevard. In addition, an American Airlines flight had to return to Harry Reid International Airport due to engine issues. Authorities recommend alternate routes as the situation develops. A deadly crash involving commercial trucks in Lincoln County also raises concerns about road safety in the area during this busy period.

Las Vegas – A series of traffic incidents have led to injuries and road closures across the city, as Nevada State Police continue to respond to multiple events affecting motorists.

One significant crash took place on the eastbound 215 Southern Beltway before Green Valley Parkway at around 9:30 p.m. on the night of the incident. The collision caused injuries and blocked the left lanes, resulting in a slowdown of traffic in the area, as seen on RTC traffic cameras. Field units are advising drivers to seek alternate routes while the scene is being cleared and preliminary details are gathered. More updates are expected as the situation evolves.

In a separate incident earlier in the day, an American Airlines flight, designated as flight 1665, was forced to return to Harry Reid International Airport due to engine issues shortly after takeoff. The flight departed at approximately 8:20 AM local time, bound for Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the aircraft, an Airbus A321, reported smoke from the left engine. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the plane successfully taxied back to the gate under its own power. Videos circulating on social media displayed smoke emanating from the aircraft during its landing. Witnesses at the scene described hearing loud booming noises, generating concern for those aboard the flight. The incident involved 153 passengers and six crew members.

In another troubling development, Las Vegas Metro police are investigating a crash involving a motorcyclist at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Twain Avenue. The incident, which involved a minivan colliding with a motorcycle, ejected the rider from the bike. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries and was attended to at the scene. Authorities have closed all northbound lanes on S Nellis Blvd at E Twain Ave for the investigation, urging motorists to find alternate routes. This situation remains a developing story, with updates forthcoming.

In Lincoln County, about 50 miles north of Interstate 15, a deadly crash involving two commercial trucks occurred on northbound U.S. 93. The collision, reported shortly after 1:35 a.m., involved a semi-tractor trailer and a commercial box truck. One man tragically died at the scene, and another driver was transported to a hospital in Las Vegas for treatment; however, the condition of the second driver has not been disclosed. Response teams have closed the northbound travel lane and shoulder to facilitate their investigation. The southbound lane remains open for traffic as the situation is assessed.

Authorities are actively managing the aftermath of these incidents, as the implications for travel in and around Las Vegas remain significant. Motorists are urged to stay informed of traffic updates, follow detours, and remain cautious on the roads during this busy period.
