Las Vegas – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is currently investigating a series of traffic incidents in and around Las Vegas that have resulted in multiple hospitalizations over the past week.
On Sunday evening, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Jones Boulevard and Pyle Avenue in southwest Las Vegas shortly after 6 p.m.. The incident involved a white minivan and a white truck. According to police reports, the minivan was traveling west on Pyle Avenue with a green light when the truck failed to yield, leading to a T-bone crash. Two adults in the minivan were taken to a local hospital as a precaution, although their current condition remains unknown. Authorities confirmed that neither speed nor intoxication was a factor in this collision. The ongoing investigation is being led by LVMPD’s traffic units.
A second incident occurred on Wednesday night in northeast Las Vegas. Just after 10:30 p.m., a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Craig Road and Puebla Street, near Lamb Boulevard. A 52-year-old man from Henderson was driving a Nissan pickup truck westbound on Craig Road when a pedestrian, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, attempted to cross the road outside of a marked crosswalk. The pedestrian was hit by the truck in the lane of travel. The driver remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment. Medical personnel transported the pedestrian to UMC Trauma, where they remain in critical condition. This incident is also being investigated by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.
Additionally, a serious collision that took place on July 3 at Mountain Vista Street and Rawhide Street is under investigation. This incident involved a 2003 GMC Yukon and a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The driver of the GMC, identified as Carlos Lee, aged 41, collided with the Hyundai while the latter was turning left. After the crash, Lee fled the scene on foot but returned later showing signs of impairment. Subsequently, he was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run. The driver of the Hyundai, a 78-year-old woman, was transported to Sunrise Hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries on August 6. Despite medical efforts, she could not recover. Her name has not been released pending notification of the next of kin, and her death will not be counted in LVMPD’s traffic fatality statistics as it occurred more than thirty days after the incident. The LVMPD Collision Investigation Section is continuing its investigation into this tragic collision.
In a separate incident on Thursday afternoon, a three-vehicle collision occurred near Bruce Street and Searles Avenue involving a school bus. Fortunately, three individuals were transported to local hospitals, but their injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. Police confirmed that no children on the bus were injured in this incident. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities indicated that impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor.
These recent traffic incidents underline ongoing safety concerns on the roads of Las Vegas. Authorities are continuing to encourage drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution while traveling, particularly at intersections and when crossing streets.
