Motorists should plan ahead for continued disruptions.

Las Vegas – Starting in September, traffic restrictions will return to Interstate 215 (I-215) in Las Vegas, featuring overnight ramp and lane closures as part of ongoing construction efforts. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and seek alternate routes during this time to avoid delays.

The closures set to resume in September are expected to be less extensive than those experienced in August. The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has released a detailed schedule for the upcoming restrictions; however, changes may occur due to weather or unforeseen conditions. Motorists are encouraged to exercise extra caution while navigating work zones during this period.

In addition to the I-215 restrictions, significant road closures are anticipated on Interstate 15 (I-15) and Tropicana Avenue throughout June. Overnight, full closures will affect several critical routes, including the Harmon on-ramp to I-15 southbound, and the northbound off-ramp to Harmon on June 1 and 2, operating nightly from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Further closures include:

  • I-15 northbound CD Road at Russell and the Russell on-ramp to I-15 northbound will close fully on June 3 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • The Tropicana on-ramp to I-15 southbound and the southbound CD Road to Russell/I-215 westbound will be closed on June 4 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Tropicana Avenue will experience lane reductions, with only two lanes open in each direction between Polaris Avenue and Valley View Drive from June 1 to July 1, 24 hours a day.
  • Additionally, the left turn access from eastbound Tropicana at New York-New York will be closed on June 1 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • On June 2 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., only one lane will be accessible eastbound from Las Vegas Boulevard to Polaris.

Mid-June will also see additional closures, particularly on June 15, 16, and 17, where the Harmon on-ramp to I-15 and the I-15 northbound off-ramp to Harmon will again close nightly from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. These ongoing disruptions are part of broader enhancements planned for the area.

Construction related to the upcoming 2025 Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix circuit is set to commence next week, which could lead to further impacts on traffic patterns. Updates regarding road conditions and changes related to the Formula 1 event will be widely communicated, and individuals can stay informed by visiting transportation resources or by texting “F1LV” to receive traffic updates.

The traffic upgrades also include a much-discussed $382 million reconstruction of the Tropicana Avenue interchange, which began in 2022. As part of this project, road crews will repave and restripe portions of the freeway. The major disruptions related to the Tropicana interchange work will culminate in back-to-back weekend closures:

  • First weekend closure: I-15 northbound from Russell to Flamingo roads will close from Friday at 9 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m., with related ramp closures.
  • Detour routes during this closure will involve exiting at Russell, heading west to Decatur Boulevard, then north to Flamingo Road, and east to re-enter I-15 northbound.
  • Second weekend closure: I-15 southbound from Spring Mountain Road to Tropicana will occur from 9 p.m. on July 18 to 5 a.m. on July 21. Exiting at Spring Mountain, heading west to Decatur, then south to Tropicana will provide a detour back onto the motorway.

After the repaving process is complete, the high-occupancy vehicle lanes that were removed will be restored. Additionally, plans include widening I-15 by one lane in each direction between Hacienda and Harmon avenues and expanding the Tropicana bridge over the interstate. Remaining construction efforts will focus on widening Tropicana Avenue between Polaris Avenue and Valley View Drive, with expected completion by this fall.

As the construction progresses, drivers should brace for continued lane restrictions and closures over the coming weeks. For the latest traffic updates and information on the ongoing projects, motorists are encouraged to monitor NDOT communications and local news sources.
