Police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle with two adults and three children inside. Upon arriving at the scene, officers engaged the male driver who had exited the vehicle and remained outside for several minutes. The situation escalated when the driver returned to the car, maneuvering through the parking lot rather than leaving the area.
As the driver approached the officers, he allegedly struck one of the officers with the vehicle. In response to this immediate threat, an officer discharged their firearm at the suspect. The suspect’s vehicle subsequently came to a halt in the median following the shooting.
The suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was promptly transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The officer who was struck by the vehicle sustained minor injuries and has been reported to be in stable condition. Additionally, one child who was outside the car at the time of the incident received injuries when the suspect attempted to flee and was also taken to the hospital for evaluation. The three children and a female passenger who were in the vehicle at the time were similarly transported for medical assessment.
Authorities closed off traffic on Tropical Parkway and Nicco Way following the incident, ensuring the safety of the public and facilitating the ongoing investigation. The North Las Vegas Police Department confirmed that this shooting marks the second officer-involved shooting in 2025.
The name of the officer involved will be released to the public after a 72-hour period, per standard protocol. Investigators are currently looking into the suspect’s actions leading up to the shooting and the circumstances within the vehicle during the incident. The investigation is ongoing and aims to uncover all relevant details surrounding this critical event.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding police interactions in the community, particularly those that escalate to violence. As the investigation progresses, further information will likely emerge regarding not only the officer’s response but also the chain of events that led to the use of force.
As the North Las Vegas Police Department continues its inquiry, community members are encouraged to stay informed about developments while understanding the implications of such incidents on local law enforcement practices and public safety.
