Seattle is buzzing with excitement following the NFL Draft on April 26, 2025, where Ricky White III from UNLV made history as the first Rebel in 15 years to be drafted. Selected as the 238th overall pick, White not only breaks a long-standing drought for UNLV but also becomes the first wide receiver from the school to join the NFL since 1995. His remarkable college career includes 218 receptions and accolades for leadership and academic achievement, leaving fans eager to see him shine as a Seahawk.
Seattle, the home of the Seahawks, is buzzing with excitement after the recent NFL Draft on April 26, 2025. This year’s draft was historic for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) as they celebrated the selection of Ricky White III, making him the first Rebel player to be drafted in 15 years!
White was chosen in the seventh round, coming in at the 238th overall pick. This moment marks a significant moment not just for White, but for the entire UNLV football program. It’s been over a decade since a Rebel found their way into the NFL, the last player being drafted way back in 2010.
In an even more exciting twist, Ricky White is the first wide receiver from UNLV to be drafted since Henry Bailey was picked back in 1995. Talk about a long time coming! White’s selection makes him only the second Rebel to ever wear a Seahawks jersey, following in the footsteps of defensive lineman Anton Palepoi who was taken by the team in 2002.
Ricky White began his college career at Michigan State University, but found his stride and showcased his incredible talents during his three seasons at UNLV. His performances have been nothing short of remarkable, as he etched his name deep into the school’s record books.
With an impressive tally of 218 career receptions, White ranks second in UNLV history. He’s also tied for second with an outstanding 13 games where he crossed the 100-yard threshold. In receiving yards, he stands tall in third place at 3,143, and he’s right on par for touchdowns as well with 23 to his name. Not too shabby for a young man who has shown nothing but determination!
White’s talents aren’t just limited to receiving. His skills on special teams shined bright, leading him to be named the 2024 Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year. To cap off a fantastic season, he topped the nation with four blocked punts, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the game.
In his final season as a college player, White didn’t just warm the bench. He racked up 1,041 receiving yards on 79 catches, and finished with a jaw-dropping 11 receiving touchdowns, landing him seventh in the nation! In doing so, he became the first Rebel to have more than one 1,000-yard receiving season. What an impressive feat!
White’s contributions to the Rebels transcended the statistics. He was a two-time team captain, proving not just his skills on the field, but also his leadership qualities. As a cherry on top, he earned First Team CSC Academic All-American honors as a senior, all while achieving a notable 3.58 GPA and securing his degree in human services.
Now that he’s officially a Seahawk, there are high hopes and expectations for White as he transitions into the professional level. His journey from UNLV to the NFL serves as a shining example of dedication paying off, and fans can’t wait to see how he will dazzle on the field in Seattle!
As the NFL season looms ahead, one thing is clear – Ricky White III’s story is just beginning, and it’s sure to be filled with excitement, triumphs, and phenomenal plays.
