News Summary

Rogich Middle School in Las Vegas has won the Clark County School District’s Superintendent’s Cup for the third consecutive year, outperforming 34 other middle schools. The competitions included various sports and academic events, showcasing the school’s excellence across disciplines. Principal Suzie Harrison-Rollins praised the effort of students and staff, highlighting the school’s five-star status and previous national achievements. Meanwhile, challenges like a lawsuit regarding bullying reflect broader issues in the educational landscape of Clark County.

Las Vegas – Rogich Middle School has achieved remarkable success by winning the Clark County School District (CCSD) Superintendent’s Cup for the third consecutive year. This achievement highlights the school’s excellence in athletics, academics, and student activities, as it outperformed 34 other middle schools in the district.

The Superintendent’s Cup competition, introduced in the 2022-2023 school year, aims to foster a spirit of friendly rivalry among Clark County middle schools. For this academic year, Miller Middle School secured second place, while Mannion Middle School rounded out the top three, taking third place.

Throughout the year, various competitions contributed to the scoring. These included flag football, basketball, soccer, spelling bees, Junior Varsity Quiz competitions, and chess. Rogich Middle School topped the leaderboard, accumulating the most points in these diverse events, showcasing the school’s versatility and talent across multiple disciplines.

Principal Suzie Harrison-Rollins expressed her pride in the hardworking students, coaches, and advisors who contributed to this victory. Under her leadership, Rogich Middle School has established itself not only as a competitor in athletics and academics but also as a recognized institution within the state of Nevada, boasting a five-star rating in the state’s school rating system.

Rogich Middle School’s accolades extend beyond the Superintendent’s Cup. The school has garnered national attention as a former Blue Ribbon School in 2015 and received an invitation to the White House, further cementing its reputation for academic excellence. In addition, during the years 2023 and 2024, Rogich won the Division I Vocabulary Bowl, competing against over 380,000 participants nationwide.

Sig Rogich, after whom the school is named, acknowledged the contributions of Principal Harrison-Rollins and the dedication of the teaching staff in shaping the students’ success. This success is a reflection of a commitment to maintaining high educational standards and engaging students in meaningful competitions.

In the larger context of education in Nevada, over $60 million in federal grants is potentially available to support schools. However, there are ongoing challenges in the district, such as a lawsuit filed by a mother alleging that the school failed to protect her son from bullying. Issues like these underscore the complexities faced by educational institutions in providing safe and supportive environments for all students.

The achievements at Rogich come alongside notable developments in the broader Clark County education landscape. For instance, Las Vegas Academy celebrated a graduate who earned a prestigious theater award. Additionally, a significant milestone was reached as 99 foster children in Clark County graduated high school in 2025, highlighting the need for more foster homes in the area.

New initiatives like Embrace Academy are being introduced to enhance the educational experience, promising individualized learning with a low student-teacher ratio. Meanwhile, Wylees, a new charter school, plans to open in the fall of 2025 at the former Macy’s location in Boulevard Mall. The school will focus on hands-on learning and will follow a unique four-day school week schedule.

As education continues to evolve in Clark County, Rogich Middle School stands out as a beacon of achievement, demonstrating the power of commitment, teamwork, and excellence in academics and athletics.
