The boy was riding his Razor scooter northbound down a parking lot ramp when he collided with a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 33-year-old Adam Martinez. The Tahoe was traveling eastbound on Sierra Vista Drive and was positioned in the left turn lane while approaching Maryland Parkway. Reports suggest that the boy may have been attempting a stunt as he neared the roadway when he overturned and fell directly in front of the vehicle.

Martinez, who was unable to avoid the teenager, struck him with the Tahoe. Emergency responders arrived shortly thereafter, and the boy was transported by ambulance to the trauma unit at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
