Traffic signal at the intersection of South Hollywood Boulevard and East Vegas Valley Drive

News Summary

A new traffic signal has been activated at the intersection of South Hollywood Boulevard and East Vegas Valley Drive, significantly improving safety for students and residents in East Las Vegas. This initiative addresses ongoing safety concerns and is part of a broader effort to enhance traffic flow around educational institutions. The county’s investment of $74 million towards infrastructure projects reflects a commitment to the community’s safety and accessibility. Future enhancements are planned, indicating ongoing efforts in traffic management in the region.

Las Vegas – A new traffic signal was activated at the intersection of South Hollywood Boulevard and East Vegas Valley Drive at 6 a.m. today, marking a significant step towards enhancing traffic safety in East Las Vegas. The implementation of this traffic signal responds to ongoing safety concerns, particularly for students traveling to and from school in the area.

The Clark County Commissioner highlighted the importance of this new signal in facilitating safer routes for children, particularly those attending the nearby East Career and Technical Academy. This project underscores the county’s commitment to improving road safety and traffic flow around educational institutions.

Construction for the traffic signal began in April and was completed approximately five months later. The intersection is a critical point, with an estimated 17,000 vehicles passing through it daily. This new installation is part of a broader initiative aimed at improving safety and accessibility in the region.

Traffic Signal Improvements and Future Plans

The newly activated signal is one of several improvements made to enhance transportation safety around schools in the Clark County area. Previous signals were activated at the Jones and Levi intersection in January and at the Amigo Street and Cactus Avenue intersection on June 12, 2025. Both additions are part of a strategy to develop safer corridors for families, especially students navigating busy intersections.

Broader Infrastructure Initiatives

This traffic signal is part of a multi-phase project aimed at enhancing the accessibility between residential and commercial areas within the Las Vegas Valley. The first phase of the Hollywood Boulevard extension project is currently underway, with a second phase anticipated to commence in 2026. The second phase will include the construction of a bridge over the Las Vegas Wash, contributing to the overall planned improvements for the area.

The total estimated cost for both phases of the Hollywood Boulevard project is around $74 million. This investment reflects a commitment to not only improving traffic management but also ensuring the safety of all road users in East Las Vegas.

Current Intersections and Traffic Flow

Clark County has published data indicating that it has more than 1,600 signalized intersections, with plans for further new installations regularly. For instance, the Jones and Levi intersection currently manages roughly 11,500 vehicles daily, while another installation at Las Vegas Boulevard and Agate Avenue handles an annual count of 18,000 vehicles. These installations reflect the county’s ongoing efforts to address safety concerns and manage traffic effectively.

As the new traffic signal at Hollywood Boulevard and Vegas Valley Drive becomes operational, it is expected to contribute significantly to creating safer travel conditions for residents, particularly students who often traverse these busy intersections. The commitment to infrastructure development in this area is poised to improve both safety and accessibility for the East Las Vegas community.
