The team will be represented by eight talented student-athletes during this year’s championships, an increase from seven athletes who participated last season. The selection follows their impressive performances at the recent Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Star Athletes and Events

The Scarlet & Gray will have representatives in three key field events. Krishna Jayasankar has qualified for both the shot put and discus events, showcasing her outstanding skills. At the Texas Relays, Jayasankar achieved a shot put mark of 15.87m (52′ 1″), which ranks her ninth in the West region. Additionally, her discus throw of 52.20m (171′ 3″) at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships places her 15th in the West.

Grace Cunningham has secured her spot in the high jump event, having accomplished a season-best jump of 1.790m (5′ 10.5″) at the Desert Heat Classic, which earned her sixth place in the West Region.

Another standout athlete, Kennedi Porter, a four-time Mountain West Outdoor champion, will compete in the women’s 100m and 200m events. Porter has set personal-best times of 11.24 seconds in the 100m, ranking eighth in the West Region, and 22.95 seconds in the 200m, which places her ninth overall.

Jaydea Carter will represent UNLV in the women’s 100m hurdles, where she ranks in the top 15 after achieving a personal-best time of 13.38 seconds at the UNLV Rebel ELITE. Furthermore, the Rebels will also aim for success in the 4x100m relay event, with potential team members including AnnaKay Maitland, Sadia Green, Jayda Bushay, and Gabriella.

Event Details

The team is set to travel to College Station, Texas, for the NCAA West Regional Championships hosted by Texas A&M. The competition is highly anticipated, with the first two events scheduled for Thursday, May 29, starting at 6:00 p.m. CT. Carter will kick off the evening with her heat in the women’s 100m hurdles, followed by Jayasankar’s shot put event.
