Authorities reported that a Nissan SUV was traveling the wrong way at speeds between 25 and 30 miles per hour when it collided with a Honda sedan and a Honda SUV. Following the crash, the driver of the Nissan was detained and later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). While only minor injuries were reported, one individual was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Less than 24 hours later, another wrong-way incident took place on the I-15 near Speedway Boulevard, resulting in the unfortunate death of Brandon Martinez. This second collision occurred at 11:14 p.m. on Saturday, where a Ford F-250 was spotted driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the interstate before crashing into a Chevrolet pickup truck. Despite efforts from both drivers to evade the impending collision, Brandon was pronounced dead at the scene due to blunt force injuries.
The driver in the second crash has also been identified as a juvenile, and similar to the previous incident, this individual was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
